In the Bible we read that God set the world on it’s foundation. “In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.” Psalms 102:25 “He set the earth on it’s foundations; it can never be moved.” Psalms 104:5
When I was young I remember being told you need a firm foundation. What did that mean? It wasn’t too important to me then but now years later I see that is where it all starts. A home builder needs to make sure that the foundation of each house they build is done right and strong to last. “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” Matthew 7:24
In the same way we need to have a firm foundation in our spiritual lives to hold us secure when things are crumbling around us. When we have a serious health issue, a challenging disability or when we mourn the loss of our loved ones, where do we go for comfort? When the world is in chaos and there seems to be no clear answers, who do you go to? This is when our established firm foundation comes in to help. We stand on the past blessings and promises that we saw the Lord do. We know where our help comes from and it comes from the Lord! Do not just wait but pray as we see what the the Lord will do. “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:12
Focus on Him and trust He is in control and will be with us in all adversity. Fix our eyes on Jesus as we stand on our beliefs, our spiritual foundation. Do you have a firm foundation that you stand on? If so do it and don’t give up, keep trusting and praying. If you don’t, go back to the basics. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
Study His word and fellowship with others who can help you grow in your faith. Seek out others who make you better and long after the things of God. Firm up your foundation so when the wind blows it won’t destroy you. Know what you believe and stand on it. Be strong and hold tight, still standing on the firm foundation and promises of God.
3/22/22
*I wrote the previous paragraphs a few days (3/3/22) before a personal storm started. Little did I know that I would need to read my own words for encouragement to get me through some tough days. My husband, John had a sudden life threatening illness and was hospitalized for 16 days. Each day was a roller coaster of confusion on treatment and possible surgery. We both saw God work behind the scenes and saw little miracles along the way. Some days were pretty dark and that is when I really needed to stand on the promises of God more than ever. God spared my husband’s life and will carry us through his recovery and future surgeries that are needed. “In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” 1 Peter 5:10 We will put our trust in Him and continue to praise Him in the storm. We are still standing.
Who is in control? God says I am
Who knows all the answers? God says I do
Who will comfort me? God says I will
