My name is John Miller and this is my miracle story.

In 2003 I was working in construction. I fell 30 feet from scaffolding onto a concrete floor. My back was broken in multiple places and I was in critical condition. I had surgery and they placed two rods in my back. I became disabled and spent the next 20 years in a wheelchair. God had a plan.

At the time of my accident, I was far away from God and on the wrong path. It did not happen right away but I did totally surrender to God and rededicate my life to Him in 2006. I reconciled with my family and renewed a relationship with my ex-wife, Cynthia. After much forgiveness and prayer, we were remarried at Calvary Chapel Melbourne in 2009. 

Since my accident, I had chronic pain daily from my injuries. I had accepted the fact that I would be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life, but chronic pain was the hardest thing to deal with. I had to totally rely on God daily for the strength to get through the day. 

As I got stronger in my faith and got involved in groups and Bible study, God put it on my heart to do something to serve others. God had a plan. 

I wanted to start a group for those who have disabilities, chronic pain, and illness. After much prayer, research, and planning, my wife and I got approved to start the support group, Finding His Purpose. We started this group for those going through trials so that they would know God still had a purpose for their life. Romans 8:28 has been our verse for our life and group ever since. Our first meeting was on January 23, 2014, and our group is still going strong. 

In the year 2018, one of the first things to happen on my way to recovery was the treatment I received to get rid of my chronic pain. I was taking many pain meds daily and still had pain. God had a plan. Through a process of changing doctors and new treatments, I was pain-free in 2018. Let God lead you to the right people and keep praying. Don’t give up! I was able to stop taking all pain meds and Praise God I am still pain-free.

In 2022, I was in the hospital four times and had three surgeries. One was very serious, my appendix burst and I got septic. It took weeks to fight off the infection and recover. It was a very stressful time since they did not want to do the surgery to remove the appendix due to my needing a heart valve replacement. God had a plan. 

Two great doctors did a successful surgery. A few months later I had my heart valve replaced. It was a difficult time but I had many people praying for me. I was able to witness to many doctors and nurses in the hospital while I was there. I wanted them to know that Christ was my strength in all circumstances. 

After I recovered completely and was still pain-free, I was feeling very good. I started to think about trying to at least stand up. I was told I would need to build up the muscles in my legs before trying anything. I made an exercise bike that uses your arms to pedal and moves your legs. I used that for almost a year. In October 2023, I stood up for the first time in many years.  It felt so good I continued to practice my new skill. I heard God say “Walk,” so then I knew God had a plan. 

My new doctor got a nerve stimulator approved for me. I started physical therapy in April 2024, with an amazing therapist, Nicholas. He wasn’t so sure at first about my desire to walk but helped me do the work and cheered me on. I shared my faith with him and we made a great team. God had a plan. 

On June 13, 2024, Nicholas asked me if I was ready to try to walk with a walker. I took my first steps on that day. I continued to get stronger and walked more each day. I thank God for this miracle in my life and give Him all the glory! 

Thank you to my family who is always there to support me. Thank you to our Finding His Purpose group and church friends who continually pray for me. 

I have learned that you must do your part and do the work. Don’t let the enemy tell you that you can’t. God will bless you for your faithfulness. God had a plan for me and He has a plan for you. Trust Him and see what happens.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
